Human Rights
Human Rights are on the top of agenda today. Nations accuse each other of violations of human rights of themselves and others. Rights are generally violated during conflicts and wars as the strength of the weapon supersedes peace over and stability and rule of law.
Aug 17, Colombo: The Central Bank of Sri Lanka, which undertook the task of translating the whole text of the report released by the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission (LLRC) into Sinhala and Tamil, has completed the translation.
The government welcomes its critics from abroad, including UN Human Rights Commissioner Navanethem Pillay, to visit Sri Lanka, since they could be given an opportunity to see for themselves the situation in the former conflict areas, Media Minister Keheliya Rambukwella said yesterday.
Tamil Nadu politicians appear to be taking turns to garner public support for something called “eelaam” and the louder they wail they are assured of remunerations which explain why only politicians are interested in forming an eelaam – be it rightfully in Tamil Nadu or its initial launchpad of Sri Lanka.
