Sir:

You say in today’s editorial,”… the diplomatic equivalent of a slap in the face – is for the leader of one country to refuse to attend a high profile gathering hosted by another.  Well Canada has just slapped Sri Lanka,” by announcing that Prime Minister Stephen Harper not wanting to attend the Comonwealth Summit in Colombo.  The reason being that there has been alleged human rights violations during the last five months of the 27 year long Tamil Tiger terrorist’s Eelam War for wanting their separate mono-ethnic, Tamil state.

International terrorism expert Prof. Rohan Gunaratna in an exclusive interview with the Sunday Observer sheds light on the do or die attempts of key LTTE fronts and their affiliates to shift the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) venue from Sri Lanka and the reasons behind the move.

Tamils for Sri Lanka, a group of Sri Lankan Tamils has begun a process to mobilize Tamil intellectuals in the country and overseas to demand that the government devise a mechanism to ensure equality and more tangible reconciliation among all communities in the country rather than fostering the Provincial Council system which has proven highly ineffective in the last two and half decades.
