‘Dangerous’ Indian politician denied entry to Malaysia

Airport officials cite Vaiko’s alleged links with Tamil separatist group

A Tamil Nadu politician was stopped from entering Malaysia and detained by immigration officials when he landed at Kuala Lumpur airport on Friday because of his alleged links to a defunct Sri Lankan militant group.

According to reports, Vaiko, the general secretary of the political party Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, has been accused of having had links with the separatist Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE).

Vaiko had arrived at Malaysia as a guest of P Ramaswamy, the deputy chief minister of Penang province, to attend his daughter’s wedding reception. Vaiko, who was kept in isolation, was informed that he was denied entry to Malaysia because his name is on a list of people who pose a threat to the country.
