Report of Sri Lanka reconciliation commission translated into Sinhala and Tamil
Aug 17, Colombo: The Central Bank of Sri Lanka, which undertook the task of translating the whole text of the report released by the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission (LLRC) into Sinhala and Tamil, has completed the translation.
The Governor of Central Bank Ajith Nivard Cabraal has handed over the translated report to the External Affairs Minister Prof. G. L. Peiris and Secretary to the President Lalith Weeratunga, at the External Affairs Ministry yesterday.
Translating the report into the two official languages was one of the priorities identified by the committee appointed by the Cabinet of Ministers and headed by the Secretary to the President to supervise the implementation of the LLRC recommendations.
Minister Peiris and Secretary Weeratunga recently told the local and foreign media as well as the ambassadors and high commissioners accredited to Sri Lanka that the Sinhala and Tamil versions of the Report would be available shortly.
The government said it has ordered the printing of the translations on a priority basis, and the printed versions will soon be available to the public.
The eight-member LLRC, appointed by the Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa to probe the three-decade long armed conflict with the Tamil Tiger terrorists, handed over its final report to the President on November 20, 2011.
